Gimin Taiko

Witness the dynamic rhythms and rich cultural heritage of Gimin Taiko, a traditional Japanese drumming performance presented by the Gimin Taiko Preservation Society from Aoki Village in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

More than a musical performance, Gimin Taiko tells the story of the brave farmers of Aoki Village who, during Japan's Edo period, stood up against feudal oppression to protect their community. Their courage, determination and unity are brought to life through the powerful beats of wadaiko (Japanese drums), traditional chants and dramatic storytelling.

Performed by both adults and children, the presentation reenacts the villagers' historic struggle for justice, symbolising perseverance, sacrifice and the strength of community spirit. This moving cultural performance offers a unique opportunity to experience an important piece of Japanese history and tradition.
